Specialised enough to understand the operation. Broad enough to grow with you.
The finance operating model is the same everywhere: reliable books, reporting that answers real questions, forward cash, then judgement. What changes by sector is which numbers matter and how often they need to be measured.
A general accountant will produce a technically correct P&L for a restaurant, a consultancy and a distributor using the same template. All three will be compliant. None of them will answer the question the owner actually has.
The restaurant needs prime cost weekly. The consultancy needs utilisation and realisation. The distributor needs landed cost per SKU and a cash conversion cycle. These are not preferences — they are the numbers that determine whether each business works, and they require the underlying data to be structured for them from the start rather than reconstructed later.
